After a successful night of trick-or-treating, raid the treat bags for all sorts of foil-wrapped goodies, or, if you are the one handing out the candy, squirrel away a nice stash for these frighteningly delicious Halloween treats. These rich, fudgy brownies are made with real melted chocolate and are whisked up all in one pan for the easiest cleanup. What better way to use up leftover Halloween candy?
How do you decorate Halloween brownies?
These brownies are meant to be fun and whimsical, so don't overthink the decorations. Just dig in the candy bowl and pick out what you like best! These brownies can be decorated with any combination of chocolaty candies. Try miniature candy bars like Snickers, Milk Way, and Twix, or mini M&Ms and Reece's Pieces. If you're a fan of candy corn, it can be added too, along with spooky candy eyeballs and bones. And don't forget the Halloween sprinkles!
Do you put the toppings on Halloween brownies before baking?
The candy should be added after baking. The colors in the candy could fade in the oven or the candy could get completely covered by batter. Plus, adding the candy afterwards is the perfect excuse to make a rich, chocolaty glaze for all of the toppings to stick to! This recipes offers a great opportunity to get the kids in the kitchen. Let them personalize their portion of the brownies with their favorite candies and have fun with it!
Can Halloween brownies be made ahead of time?
The brownies can be baked up to one day ahead before adding the glaze. This gives them plenty of time to cool! Once the brownies have cooled to room temperature, wrap the pan tightly in plastic wrap or foil and store them at room temperature. The next day, make and add the glaze, and let the brownies sit for about an hour until the glaze sets. Then, these brownies are ready to slice and serve. For cleaner cuts, the glazed brownies can be refrigerated for 30 minutes before slicing.

(1 stick) unsalted butter, cubed
- 8 oz.
bittersweet chocolate bars (60%), chopped
- 10
fun-sized chocolate bars, cut into pieces (Snickers, Milky Way, Twix, 3 Musketeers)
- 1/4 cup
mini M&M's
- 1/4 cup
Reese's Pieces
- 1/4 cup
candy corn
- 2 Tbsp.
candy bones or eyeballs
- 1 Tbsp.
Halloween sprinkles
Directions
- Step 1For the brownies: Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Line a 13-by-9-inch baking pan with parchment paper with at least 1 inch of excess paper over the sides.
- Step 2In a large saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the bittersweet chocolate, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and butter, stirring until the chocolate is melted, about 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and whisk in the cocoa powder until smooth. Let cool slightly, about 5 minutes.
- Step 3Stir in the eggs, one at a time, and mix until well combined. Stir in the vanilla. Add the flour, salt, and espresso powder, if using, and gently stir until completely combined.
- Step 4Spray a 13-by-9-inch baking pan with baking spray with flour. Pour the batter into the pan and spread evenly. Tap the pan on the counter to release any air bubbles. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 40 minutes (do not overbake). Let cool completely in the pan.
- Step 5For the topping: To a microwave-safe bowl, add the butter and the chocolate. Microwave at 50 percent power in 30-second intervals, stirring, until melted. Pour over the brownies, smoothing with a spatula, and top with assorted candy and sprinkles. Let set, 30 minutes to 1 hour. Use parchment handles to carefully lift the brownies out of the pan before slicing.
Tip: You need about 1 cup of cut up candy to top the brownies. Feel free to use your favorites!
