It's just a fact that you're never too old for a grilled cheese sandwich. It's one of the those comfort foods that cures your cravings for everything melty, golden, and crispy in a matter of minutes. And there are countless ways to make grilled cheese between all the bread and best cheese options, so you can really customize it to your liking.

Then, there's the technique. While you could whip out a panini press or just use your trusty skillet, The Pioneer Woman suggests a more modern way to make it: "I'm here to proclaim the merits of making grilled cheese sandwiches in an air fryer," says Ree Drummond in a recent video. And once you watch her in action, you'll be a believer, too!

Ree starts with spreading Dijon mustard on sliced sourdough bread (admittedly, not homemade!) with a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Then she uses a mix of provolone, white cheddar, and smoked gouda in the center. Now here comes the slightly controversial part, where Ree begs, "trust me pretty please." Spread both salted butter and mayo on the outside of both slices of bread.

(Pausing to let that sink in.)

Still reading? Good. "You will love this," she promises. She then places the sandwich in her air fryer (naturally, it's her bestseller from The Pioneer Woman collection) and cooks it at 375 degrees for five to seven minutes. Then she flips it to repeat the process on the other side. The result? An epic grilled cheese, obviously!

The Pioneer Woman Air Fryer

The reason she loves this air fryer recipe is that "the bread gets golden-crisp and the cheese melts at a perfectly even pace," she explains. "Yes, I still make grilled cheeses in the skillet," she goes on to say, "But every time I make one in the air fryer I’m reminded of the magic.✨"

If you came for the technique, you have to stay for the dunk. Ree serves her grilled cheese alongside classic tomato soup for a quick lunch. You have to admit, it looks pretty darn tasty. So now, it's your turn! Grab your air fryer and give her butter/mayo combo a try. You know by now that The Pioneer Woman would never steer you wrong. 😉
