There’s something so magical in the air the moment summer ends! Maybe it’s the crisp autumn breeze, maybe it’s the fall foliage as it changes colors—or maybe it’s the smell of warm spices drifting from every café around.

It's true! As soon as the first leaf hits the ground, everyone's cravings shift like clockwork. Suddenly, your local coffee shop is offering five different variations of "spiced" something. And admittedly, it's an event to get excited about every year. But from apple and cinnamon spice to caramel and maple, what’s really America’s go-to fall flavor?

Well, DoorDash dug into the most-ordered treats, and it turns out that your seasonal sweet tooth depends heavily on where you live. Maybe you can't quit the classics (oh hey, pumpkin spice!) or want to know all about the bold newcomers, keep reading for a peek at each state's top pick.

Call it "Apple Country," because this crisp classic is the top fall flavor across 18 states, especially in the South and Mid-Atlantic. From Georgia to the Carolinas and even New York (yes, the Big Apple), it's proved to be a top tart-yet-sweet treat. Speaking of sweet, caramel cozied up to the leading spot in 13 states across the Midwest, including Illinois, Iowa, both Dakotas, and even Ree Drummond's home state of Oklahoma.

Meanwhile, the PSL continues its reign out West, with pumpkin topping the charts in California, Oregon, and Washington—the birthplace of that iconic latte that everyone has waited way too long in line for. Pumpkin spice also takes the crown in states like Kansas, Ohio, and West Virginia. Overall, the iconic latte reached "59,000 orders a week from August through October 2024," according to DoorDash.

Then, there's cinnamon! The spice made a strong showing across several New England states: Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Alaska and Utah also find this flavor to be most comforting.

As for a few outliers, those in Michigan have their own syrupy opinions, favoring the warm, earthy notes of maple. And Texas stayed true to its roots with pecan as its top flavor—no surprise from the home of pecan pie and now, fall 2025’s breakout flavor. DoorDash explains that pecan is "the fastest-growing fall flavor, with orders up 28% year-over-year." So be sure to give it a try next time you're ordering an autumnal indulgence!
