Looking for the perfect snack to put out for your holiday guests to much on? This Christmas Chex Mix is it. This sweet and salty snack uses simple ingredients, doesn't take long to make, and will keep everyone coming back for more. You can even add in Christmas sprinkles or different colors of chocolate or candy melt drizzle. Plus this mix isn't just for Christmas—you can switch up the candy color for a totally different holiday (like using Easter or Halloween M&M colors instead). This is a great Christmas snack to make with your kids, or to gift to friends and neighbors. You just might need to make a double batch—it disappears quickly!

What is in Christmas Chex Mix?

The base of this Chex mix is Chex cereal, pretzels, and roasted (and salted) almonds. Those ingredients get tossed with a wonderful buttery, sugary, cinnamon-spiced mixture and baked until dry. At that point, it's delicious as is, but I like to drizzle it with white chocolate and sprinkle with holiday-colored M&Ms. It's an over-the-top, but still really simple treat that everyone can't stop eating.

What's the best way to store Christmas Chex Mix?

Store this it in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week for easy snacking. You can also store it in an airtight container or zip-top bag in the freezer for up to one month.

Is it cheaper to buy or make Chex mix?

This Christmas Chex Mix is so unique that you can't buy it, but if you're looking for a standard original recipe for Chex mix it can be a bit cheaper to buy pre-made rather than purchase all the ingredients and put it together yourself (though it won't taste exactly the same!).

Ingredients

  • 4 cups

cups corn and/or rice cereal squares (such as Chex)

  • 2 cups

    mini pretzels

  • 1 cup

    salted roasted almonds

  • 4 Tbsp.

    salted butter

  • 1/4 cup

    honey

  • 1/4 cup

    sugar

  • 1 tsp.

    ground cinnamon

  • 1 tsp.

    vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup

    white chocolate chips

  • 2 tsp.

    coconut oil

  • 1 cup

    red and green M&M's

Directions

    1. Step 1Preheat the oven to 250˚F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, combine the cereal, pretzels, and almonds.
    2. Step 2In a small saucepan, melt the butter with the honey and sugar over low heat until the mixture is bubbling and well combined, about 2 minutes. Add the cinnamon and vanilla and stir until well combined. Pour half of the butter mixture over the cereal mixture and toss until well coated. Add the remaining butter mixture and toss again until evenly coated.
    3. Step 3Spread the mixture on the baking sheet in an even layer. Bake, stirring every 15 minutes, until toasted and just starting to dry out, about 1 hour.
    4. Step 4Combine the white chocolate chips and coconut oil in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at 50% power in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval, until melted and smooth.
    5. Step 5Drizzle the white chocolate over the snack mix on the baking sheet, then immediately sprinkle with the M&M’s. Let cool completely so the white chocolate sets, about 30 minutes. Break into small clusters.
