Calling all fans of comfort food recipes! Cheeseburger pie is here to satisfy all of your cravings. In this easy dinner, hearty ground beef is cooked until browned and crumbly with plenty of sweet yellow onion and just a little Worcestershire for a rich, savory kick. Then it's topped with an easy stir-together crust and plenty of cheese, and baked for just 25 minutes. That leaves just enough time to grab the pickles and ketchup, and stir together some burger sauce for serving. This is a dinner your family will request weekly!

What is cheeseburger pie?

Cheeseburger pie isn't really a pie, but it's not quite a quiche, either. It's actually very similar to a delicious breakfast casserole. Although variations of hamburger pie recipes have been around for years, hamburger pie got famous when a recipe for it was printed on the back of Bisquick boxes.

What's in burger sauce?

Burger sauce can take burger recipes from good to great, and this cheeseburger pie is no exception. The condiment is typically made with a combination of mayo, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, and mustard. Feel free to jazz yours up with some Worcestershire sauce, Sriracha, smoked paprika, and black pepper to your liking.

Can you make cheeseburger pie with Bisquick?

This recipe for cheeseburger pie calls for pantry staples to make a homemade version of Bisquick, which is a convenient baking mix. If you have a box of Bisquick in your pantry and you'd like to use it as a shortcut, feel free to do so! Simply substitute 1/2 cup Bisquick for the 1/2 cup flour, baking powder, and 1 tablespoon melted butter in this recipe.

What can you use instead of buttermilk?

Try making a buttermilk substitute! If you have lemon juice and regular milk on hand, use those. Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to a measuring cup, then enough milk to reach 1 cup. Stir, then let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes before using.

What meat can you use in cheeseburger pie?

If you want to keep your cheeseburger pie classic, you can use any ground beef you have on hand. Ground round or ground chuck is fattier, so it may require draining after cooking; ground sirloin or lean ground beef do not. If you're looking for a healthier option, substitute 1 pound of ground bison, turkey, or even chicken. The possibilities are almost endless, and are certainly delicious!

What toppings go on cheeseburger pie?

Any of your favorite burger toppings are right at home atop this pie. This recipe calls for pairing slices of pie with pickles, ketchup, and burger sauce, but you could also top servings with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, chopped onion, and crispy cooked bacon. Even a squirt of mustard would be delicious! You really can't go wrong.

How do you store leftover cheeseburger pie?

Cover the pie plate tightly with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for up to three days. Reheat slices in the microwave for a quick meal!
