The problem with mini desserts is that they're so small, I think it's okay to eat five at a time. Sometimes a dozen. One minute I'm making a cute fall dessert for a crowd of 20, and the next I've consumed the entire batch myself. But whether you're like me or possess more self control, these mini apple pies are a total delight. They taste just like homemade apple pie, but are adorably bite-sized and easy to pack up and bring to a Thanksgiving potluck or bake sale. The apple filling is classically delicious, but it's the buttery crumble topping that I can't stop dreaming about.
What kind of apples are best for mini apple pies?
I tend to reach for Granny Smith apples when I make apple pie. They're more tart which balances out the sugar in the rest of the recipe. But Honey Crisp are another good type of apple to use for apple pie. They're a little sweeter than Granny Smith, but still hold up to being baked.
Do mini apple pies need to be refrigerated?
Yes, it's best to store them in the fridge in an airtight container. They'll stay fresh for about 4 days.
What kind of crust do you use for mini apple pies?
A package of store-bought pie crusts works great for this because you need two crusts. You can certainly make your own crust instead, though. The all-butter pie crust and perfect pie crust recipes make two crusts anyway!

Ingredients
For the Pies:
- 1
(14-oz.) package refrigerated pie dough (2 crusts)
- 1
large apple, peeled and diced
- 2 Tbsp.
granulated sugar
- 1 Tbsp.
all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp.
honey
For the Topping:
- 1/4 cup
all-purpose flour
- 2 Tbsp.
packed light brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp.
granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp.
ground cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp.
salted butter, cut into small pieces
Directions
- Step 1Preheat the oven to 375°F. For the pies: Roll out 1 piece of pie dough into a 12-inch round. Using a 3-inch cutter, cut out 12 small rounds. Repeat with the other piece of pie dough to make 12 more rounds. Press each round into a hole of a 24-cup mini muffin tin, pressing the dough evenly up the sides. Place in the refrigerator.
- Step 2In a medium bowl, toss the apple, granulated sugar, flour, and honey to combine.
- Step 3For the topping: In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Using a fork or pastry cutter, cut the butter into the flour mixture a few pieces at a time, until evenly mixed.
- Step 4Place 1 teaspoon of the apple mixture in each muffin cup; top with 1 teaspoon of the topping. Bake until golden, about 20 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then remove to a rack to cool completely.
