Some cocktails are just more fun when enjoyed with friends, and cosmopolitans are right at the top of that list (margaritas are a close second!). This bright pink drink became a bar staple in the ‘90s and hasn’t lost its charm since. Light, crisp, and refreshing, it is made of an irresistible combination of vodka, orange liqueur, cranberry juice, and lime juice. Not to mention, the drink is just so darn pretty! Sweet, tart, and citrusy, it’s just the thing for a girls’ night in or fancy dinner party.

Can you make a cosmopolitan ahead of time?
You bet! Cosmopolitans are perfect drinks for making in batches in advance. Just mix everything up in a pitcher and let it chill in the refrigerator for up to three days. When it’s time to serve, add ice, stir until very cold, and strain into glasses.

What’s the best garnish for a cosmopolitan?
An orange twist is the go-to garnish for a classic cosmopolitan cocktail. It brings color and a hint of citrus—plus, the fragrant orange oil adds just enough flavor to make your drink pop. If you are short on time, a lime wedge works too. Either way, the drink will look (and taste) fabulous!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz.

    citrus vodka

  • 4 oz.

    cranberry juice cocktail

  • 3 oz.

    fresh lime juice

  • 3 oz.

triple sec or other orange liqueur

  • 1

    orange, for garnish

Directions

    1. Step 1Combine the vodka, cranberry juice, lime juice, and triple sec in a pitcher filled with ice. Stir well until chilled, then strain through a fine mesh strainer or slotted spoon into 4 martini or coupe glasses.
    2. Step 2Use a vegetable peeler or paring knife to remove 4 strips of peel from the orange, avoiding as much of the bitter white pith as possible. Garnish each glass with an orange twist.

Tip: To make ahead, stir together the ingredients in a pitcher refrigerate for up to 3 days. When ready to serve, add the ice, stir to chill thoroughly, and strain into glasses.
