Felt Leaves Wreath

Dana Gallagher

Give your door a bright fall makeover with this felt foliage wreath!

To make it, you'll need twelve 8-by-12-inch sheets of felt in assorted autumnal colors and a 12-inch wire wreath frame. Begin by wrapping thin strips of felt around the wreath frame and hot-glue in place until the entire frame is covered.

Fold a sheet of felt accordion-style about 6 times, ironing the creases, and repeat with each sheet of felt. Using scallop shears, cut 2-inch-long leaves from the folded/creased felt. (You'll just need to cut a half-leaf shape, then unfold it like you would when cutting out a heart.) Repeat this step with all of the pieces, so you end up with 8 to 10 leaves of each color.

For the last step, add the leaves to the wreath, gluing them in place as you go and layering them as shown. Begin with a section of the lightest felt color and end with the darkest one!

Birch and Blooms Wreath

Fall is all about the scents, and fresh-cut birch smells so darn good! The light birch wood perfectly balances these warm pink and red flowers.

Gather about 40 assorted birch slices together and arrange the largest ones on a 12-inch chipboard wreath using a hot glue gun. Then, layer the medium and small ones on top and glue them. For a final floral touch, cut off the stems of faux flowers using a wire cutter, and glue the flowers in clusters over the birch bark slices.

Colorful Raffia Wreath

For a cool-tone door, use a blue, teal, and green wreath that matches the evergreens in your area!

To make it, begin by cutting large pieces of cardboard into three rectangles, 3 by 6 inches, 3 by 7 inches, and 3 by 7 1/2 inches. Wrap the teal raffia lengthwise around the 6-inch rectangle as many times as possible, then snip at the bottom and top, so you get 6-inch-long pieces. (Repeat with the other two colors and rectangles.)

For the wreath base, use a 12-inch wreath hoop to trace a circle on a piece of cardboard and cut it out. Next, cut out an opening that's 8 inches wide. Grab a strand of teal raffia and hook it onto the 8-inch hoop by forming a loop and drawing the ends through, as you do with a luggage tag. Continue with more strands of raffia until the hoop is full. Repeat with the emerald raffia using a 10-inch hoop and the turquoise raffia on a 12-inch hoop.

Finally, assemble the wreath by hot-gluing the turquoise wreath to the cardboard base, and the emerald and teal wreaths on top.
