Over the last few months, there has been one question hot on the minds of millions: "Is Yellowstone ending?" Well, we finally have an answer for you, and it's pretty bittersweet.

On May 5, 2023, Paramount released an official statement that confirmed the end of Yellowstone as a series. The final part of season 5 will officially premiere in November, with a new, untitled sequel series taking over in December. What the new show will be about and who will star in it has not been announced, but there's a good chance that many of our favorite Yellowstone characters will return. And according to Paramount, the cast will be announced sooner rather than later!

“The Dutton story continues, picking up where Yellowstone leaves off in another epic tale," said David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios.

Though this news is incredibly sad, we at least have a Yellowstone spinoff to look forward to!

Back in February, Deadline first reported on a vague, but inducing statement from a Paramount spokesperson regarding the ongoing discourse surrounding disagreements between the company and Kevin Costner.

"We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that's the case for a long time to come," the spokesperson said.

However, issues reportedly came up in regards to Yellowstone's filming schedule.

"The crux of the issue with the original Yellowstone series involves star Kevin Costner and disagreements over shooting schedules," Deadline reported.

Where does this leave us? Well, Taylor Sheridan has just hired seasoned Hollywood actor, Matthew McConaughey to continue the Yellowstone story.

"Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner,” the Paramount spokesperson told Deadline.

There's no word on if this series is the one Paramount referenced today, but if so, it will become part of the ever-expanding Yellowstone universe—joining the likes of 1923 and 1883.
