It's a great year for fans of '80s movies, that's for sure. Mostly because Beetlejuice, a cult classic and genuine cinematic phenomena, is getting a sequel 35 years later!
Anyone who's a fan of Tim Burton's work as a filmmaker has probably been privy to the sequel rumors that have circulated over the last decade. And now it's finally happening! Beetlejuice 2 (also known as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) is set to premiere this fall.
In case you needed a refresher, the original Beetlejuice movie tells the story of Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis)—a deceased, ghost couple—who find peace in haunting their left-behind home. All goes well until a new, living family—Delia (Catherine O'Hara) and Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones), and their daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder)—buy the house and decide to move in and make it theirs. In an evocative effort to scare them away, Adam and Barbara hire Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton)—a prominent name in the world of the dead—to do the job. But things go a little haywire once Beetlejuice develops his own plan.
Beetlejuice became a staple film in the horror-comedy genre (as Tim Burton movies tend to do), so we're more than excited to feast our eyes on the continuation of its story with Beetlejuice 2.
