As it turns out, the most popular flight of the summer doesn't have anything to do with traveling! The latest TikTok food creation to hatch is the egg flight—halved, hard-boiled eggs topped with just about any garnish you can find in your pantry and fridge.

Like wine flights, toast flights, and other food and drink flights, egg flights involve a variety of creative topping combinations on a boiled egg base for the perfect protein-packed snack. Think of it like a deconstructed deviled egg—which also happens to be one of Ree Drummond’s favorite finger foods!

"They are dangerous things for me to have around," says Ree. "Sometimes I tell myself, 'I'm only eating half an egg' when I eat one, and then I eat seven more." Unlike a typical deviled egg, the mayo and other creamy additions are placed directly on top of the boiled egg slice. Then, you can load up your egg halves with bacon, cheese, tomatoes, herbs, and seasonings galore!

TikTok user Alice Choi, also known as Hip Foodie Mom, unofficially started the trend in 2022, but recently went viral for an egg flight video this June. Since then, the deviled egg-inspired delight has caught the attention of TikTok foodies and casual users alike, who have posted their many takes on the egg flight to the app this summer.

In her egg flight video from June, which amassed 1.5 million views, Choi starts with a creamy base of Kewpie mayo and mustard, but you can get creative here with different sauces and spreads. She then adds a different topping to each duo of egg halves, including kimchi, hot and sweet jalapeños, and pickled red onions. Choi finishes the egg flight off with a dash of chili crunch hot honey for the perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and tangy!

“This is like lazy deviled eggs! I love it!,” one user commented on Choi’s video.

Like the many deviled egg recipes Ree has come up with over the years, including dill pickle deviled eggs and horseradish deviled eggs, there are plenty of egg flight topping possibilities to choose from. Another popular food creator, @logagm, took a slightly different approach to his egg flight, using a base of cream cheese topped with smoked salmon and everything bagel seasoning. He also made a feta, lemon, and hot honey and a chimichurri, green onion, cherry tomato, and balsamic glaze combo for a trio of fun flavor combinations!

“As someone who hates boiled eggs these egg flights have me craving them,” another user commented.

You know what they say: If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em! After all, what’s not to like about a completely customizable snack? Let us know your ideal egg flight toppings in the comments below!
