Every Halloween is a chance to try something new, whether it's a creative Halloween costume or a recipe for a pumpkin-spiced treat. And this year is no exception!
In fact, you can experiment like a mad scientist with all the trends popping up this Halloween. For instance, you can stock up on the most popular Halloween candies or dress up like a Stanley tumbler. But if you're looking for inspiration from one of the top social media platforms then Pinterest is where you need to go.
According to Pinterest's 2024 Halloween Trends Report, the spooky season "isn't just for kids anymore." It's also a chance for people of all ages to show off their most creepy (or just darn right cute) creations. So, what are this year's hottest trends?
Costumes and Makeup
Pinterest says that users are seeking out pop culture costume ideas like "Wicked Halloween costume" which had searches spike 890%, along with spooky sports costumes for those looking to show off their athletic side. "In beauty, trending searches show users opting for gothic looks and animal-inspired artistry," the report says. So, break out the face paint and get ready to try some "leopard print" makeup (up 670%), "cheetah print makeup" (up 570%), or even "deer makeup" (up 206%).
Home Decorations
Looking for more ways to get in the Halloween spirit? Pinterest says you can bring this year's top trends to your home by embracing vintage Halloween décor. That includes paper fans, party favors, and papier-mâché candy buckets as seen in blogger Inspired By Charm's vintage Halloween tablescape. According to the report, "nostalgia is creeping in" with searches for decorations from the '70s (like "disco Halloween décor" rising 175%) and '90s making a comeback. Hello, "Hippie Halloween!"
Spooky Party Foods
And in the kitchen, Pinterest users are seeking out new ways to have some ghostly fun. "Festive and creative twists on classic party foods will lead the way this Halloween season," the report says. Here the top trends in Halloween foods:
- Ghost pizza +850%
- Halloween popcorn bar +110%
- Pumpkin smores cookies +390%
- Pumpkin fluff +240%
- Ghost brownies +200%
- Eyeball cookies +100%
What's more? People are getting excited about "tapping into a new trend of Halloween breakfast," with searches surging 80%. To give it a try, make these creepy eyeball doughnut holes and a pumpkin spice latte to kick off the holiday right from the start!
