Super Bowl Sunday just wouldn't be the same without a big plate of chicken wings. Whether you like them spicy, sweet, smoky, or extra crispy, they're practically a requirement for any game day spread. (Along with festive Super Bowl drinks and party dips, of course!) So it's no surprise that football fans across the country have been searching all different wing styles in the weeks leading up to the big game. And, according to Google Trends, every state has a clear favorite.
This year, wet wings take the crown! (Or should we say the Lombardi trophy? 🤔) Classic, saucy styles like buffalo, honey BBQ, and mango habanero rank as the most searched in 18 states. But they're not the only MVPs. Baked and smoked wings are having a moment, topping the list in 10 states. Meanwhile, dry rub wings (think garlic parmesan and lemon pepper) are tied with fried wing varieties (like deep-fried and air-fried) as the favorites in eight states each. In Ree Drummond's home state of Oklahoma, crispy, golden wings are the fan favorite—which is good news, because she has a great recipe for air fryer chicken wings!
If you checked out this year's map of the most popular Super Bowl dips, you won't be surprised to see buffalo wings taking the lead here. Buffalo chicken dip was the most searched in 13 states, because when it comes to game day, you can never go wrong with a little extra heat.
So, does your state's pick match your go-to wing order? Let us know in the comments! And whether you're dunking a crispy wing into homemade ranch or loading up on saucy buffalo wings, be sure to have plenty of napkins handy. It's not a real Super Bowl party without sticky fingers!
