1Now: Kevin Costner as John Dutton
Paramount NetworkKevin Costner is one of the lead producers on Yellowstone and, of course, plays the patriarch John Dutton. In real life, Kevin has his own gorgeous 160-acre ranch in Colorado. (Unfortunately, it's not open to visitors.)
When he's not busy with Yellowstone, Kevin is currently working on a few other projects. Most recently, he announced the development of an indigenous history docuseries called Onward.
2Then: Jake in 'Silverado'
Sunset Boulevard//Getty ImagesTalk about aging like fine wine! Kevin Costner's first-ever role was a steamy romance movie called Sizzle Beach, U.S.A. The actor was apparently a bit embarrassed by the movie and tried unsuccessfully to buy the rights to the film to keep it out of public view. Lucky for him, it was a flopâand his real breakout role was in Silverado, a popular 1985 American Western. It seems like a pretty natural trajectory to the Dutton ranch from there!

3Now: Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton
Paramount NetworkAll of the drama in Yellowstone seems to lead back to Kelly Reilly's character, Beth Duttonâwhether she's creating it or she's covering it up. Beth is a fierce businesswoman who holds the ranch together in more ways than one.
4Then: Young Amy in 'Last Orders'
Gabe Palacio//Getty ImagesThat American accent is a pretty good fake, because Kelly is actually British! Much like her character, Kelly is a tenacious worker and got her very first acting role by writing to the producers of the UK television drama Prime Suspect to ask for work. It paid off, and she landed a few episodes. Her first significant professional role came six years later when she appeared alongside Helen Mirren (pictured) in the British/German drama, Last Orders.

5Now: Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton
Paramount NetworkKayce Dutton has a strained relationship with John and is torn between his family and the family and tribe he has married into. Season 4 saw the softie heart-throb welcome the news of a new baby in the family, but it seems a wolf is at their door (literally and figuratively).
6Then: Jake in 'All The Boys Love Mandy Lane'
Carlo Allegri//Getty ImagesLook at that baby face! Grimes' first movie appearance was in the 2006 teen slasher flick, All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, where he was dramatically killed off mid-movie. Since his slasher days, the actor has been in several shows and movies and drummed in an L.A. country band.

At the end of the most recent season, she was relieved to find her husband excited about the prospect of their new baby.
8Then: Mikayla Makoola on 'Pair of Kings'
Ron Tom//Getty ImagesWho knew a Disney XD sitcom would lead Kelsey to Yellowstone? After gaining experience in community theatre, her first lead character role was on the show Pair of Kings. Kelsey also portrayed Native American women in Wind River and Fargo before her role on Yellowstone.

9Now: Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater
Paramount NetworkIn the latest season of Yellowstone, Chief Thomas Rainwater was tentatively on the side of his rivals, the Duttons, though he continues to fight for his rights and power. 2022 is already a big year for Gil, as he already has three projects in post-production, including the much-anticipated thriller series, Pieces of Her.
10Then: Billy Black in 'Twilight'
Lester Cohen//Getty ImagesIn the early 1980s, a talent scout spotted Gil at a local gym where he was bodybuilding for contests. He recruited Gil to appear in a Diana Ross music video for the hit song "Muscles." And while Gil went on to have an expansive movie and television career spanning the 1990s and early 2000s, his big break came when he was cast in Twilight.

13Now: Wes Bentley as Jamie Dutton
Paramount NetworkThe "black sheep" of the family, Jamie Dutton, had quite the fourth season going up against his family. Viewers left Jamie and Beth after a dramatic standoff, so we'll have to see where season 5 picks up.
When Wes wasn't filming the latest season of Yellowstone last year, he spent his time working on the new Ridley Scott Blade Runner television show.
14Then: Ricky Fitts in American Beauty
CBS Photo Archive//Getty ImagesWes doesn't seem to have aged much since his days as the quirky boy-next-store in American Beauty. The hit film was just his third professional role and launched a prolific career. He's essentially worked on multiple film and television projects every year since 1999.
