12 New Movies Coming Out in Summer 2024
You'll have something to watch all season long!
Summertime is for relaxing, taking your much-need vacations, and watching lots and lots of movies. Everyone has their preference of films they like to watch during the months of June to August, and "summer movies" is quite literally a genre in itself. There's no need to stop yourself from rewatching feel-good flicks like Mamma Mia! or beach thrillers like Jaws—but you should definitely try to make room for the new movies coming out this summer.
Movie makers must have known what movie goers wanted this summer, because there is such a good array of flicks coming out in 2024. You've got your reliable Disney films like Inside Out 2 for a family movie outing in mid-June. Of course, there's the highly anticipated "passion project" from Kevin Costner, Horizon: An American Saga, also making its debut. There are a few more sure-to-be classics, like some remakes of famous '80s films as well as some horror movies sprinkled throughout.
In all, this is a great summer for new movies—so you'll probably want to head to your nearest movie theater as soon as possible!

Inside Out 2
Release Date: June 14, 2024
Cast: Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Maya Hawke, and Ayo Edebiri.
Riley, the young human girl from the first film, is beginning to grow up, which means she is more in tune with her mind. Each of her emotions have a personality of their own—and they must learn how to welcome new ones (like Anxiety).
The Bikeriders
Release Date: June 21, 2024
Cast: Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, Norman Reedus, Mike Faist, and Boyd Holbrook.
The Bikeriders is a classic case of the "bad boy meets good girl" trope—which is obviously just what you need to start your summer. It follows a young guy named Benny, a member of a motorcycle gang in the midwest. When said gang begins to get into some serious trouble, he must figure out what's more important to him: his unruly crew of motorcycle pals or the new, sweet girl he meets that could change his life for the better.

Release Date: June 21, 2024
Cast: Julianne Nicholson, Zoe Ziegler, Elias Koteas, Sophie Okonedo, Will Patton, and Abby Harri.
Lacy is an 11-year-old girl who is more than fine with the company of only her mother and her creative imagination. Though, when some newcomers begin to draw her mom's attention elsewhere, Lacy must find a way to cope with having to share her.
Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1
Release Date: June 28, 2024
Cast: Kevin Costner, Hayes Costner, Sienna Miller, Jamie Campbell Bower, Abbey Lee, Ella Hunt, and Sam Worthington.
Kevin Costner's passion project will be separated into a couple of parts. The saga will primarily focus on a family in the American West, specifically during the pre- and post-Civil War expansion. Watch as Costner's character leads his family in a bold, but powerful escape as they try to fight for what's right. Also highlighted is the land's indigenous community, and the pivotal and emotional part they played in this piece of history.
A Quiet Place: Day One
Release Date: June 28, 2024
Cast: Lupita Nyong'o, Joseph Quinn, Djimon Hounsou, Alex Wolff, Cain Aiden, and Alexander DiPersia.
A Quiet Place: Day One is both the prequel and third installment of the apocalyptic franchise led by John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. It takes viewers back to the "day one" of the life-changing monster invasion the world faced, specifically focusing on the lives of those in New York City.
Despicable Me 4
Release Date: July 3, 2024
Cast: Steve Carell, Dana Gaier, Miranda Cosgrove, Will Ferrell, Chris Renaud, Kristen Wiig, Pierre Coffin, and Sofía Vergara.
Gru has seriously met his match this time around, but it's not who you may think. Instead of a heroic opponent, the person who is now giving him the most trouble is his newborn son, Gru Junior. Turns out, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, and it only took a rambunctious child for Gru to figure that out.
Fly Me to the Moon
Release Date: July 12, 2024
Cast: Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Woody Harrelson, Chris Evans, Anna Garcia, Ray Romano, Donald Elise Watkins, and Noah Robbins.
You didn't think this summer could do without a rom-com, did you? Travel back to the 1960s with movie stars Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson. One plays a cheeky marketing executive while the other plays a member of NASA during the era of the monumental Apollo 11 moon landing.
Twisters
Release Date: July 19, 2024
Cast: Glen Powell, Kiernan Shipka, Anthony Ramos, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Katy M. O'Brian, David Corenswet, and Brandon Perea.
Tornado dramas are back everyone... just in time for summer! This long-awaited sequel to the original 1996 film will follow a tornado research team in Oklahoma as they try to investigate a series of massive twisters taking place. They must run for their lives while also competing against a rising and daring social media star looking to gain fame by covering the natural disaster.
Borderlands
Release Date: August 9, 2024
Cast: Kevin Hart, Cate Blanchett, Ariana Greenblatt, Gina Gershon, Bobby Lee, Florian Munteanu, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jack Black.
Based on the video game of the same name, Borderlands sees an all-star cast play a group of eclectic warriors as they aim to take down aliens who invaded their home planet. Oscar-award winning actress, Cate Blanchett joins forces with the likes of A-list actors, Kevin Hart and Jack Black.
Trap
Release Date: August 9, 2024
Cast: Saleka, Josh Hartnett, Hayley Mills, Karina Grzella, Vanessa Smythe, and Alison Pill.
This M. Night Shyamalan original follows a father as he brings his daughter to a concert that she has been anticipating for a while. They get there only to realize that the event was a ploy to capture a looming killer in the area. Like all Shyamalan movies, this one has a twist: the father is the killer, and now he must escape. (But as the audience, you won't want to root for him even though he is the main character.)
It Ends With Us
Release Date: August 9, 2024
Cast: Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, Brandon Sklenar, Jenny Slate, and Isabela Ferrer.
Those who have read Colleen Hoover books are eagerly awaiting this romance (but not so romantic after all) adaptation. It centers around a gal named Lily and the life she lives trying to escape her toxic husband while also balancing a separate fling.
Beetlejuice 2
Release Date: September 5, 2024
Cast: Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and Justin Theroux.
Lydia may have thought her time with the monstrous (and incredibly witty) Beetlejuice was over. But she finds herself having to fend off his presence again years later when her teenage daughter stumbles upon a portal that summons his spirit from the Afterlife.
