Do you have that one kid in your family that just cracks you up, no matter what they do? Bryce is that kid for me. It could just be an expression he makes, or a phrase he utters, or a gesture or a question or a look...but something about Bryce just makes me laugh.
On Easter Sunday, my father-in-law Chuck made the ham. He was very proud of the 30-pounder he had procured, and he took control of the entire process of getting it into the oven earlier that morning while we were heading to church. But when it came time to lift the ham out of the oven after it cooked, Chuck and I realized we were outmatched because it had been cooking in a disposable aluminum roasting pan with a rack, and even if we could lift it from a strength perspective (which was questionable), the flexibility of the pan made the whole thing pretty unwieldy.
Enter: Bryce Drummond, college football player. (And his mullet. But we'll cover that down below.)
Bryce was happy to grab a set of potholders and step in...and Chuck and I were happy to hover over him and navigate/be control freaks. Would the pan hold up under the weight of the ham? Would the pan bend and slosh juices all over the oven and floor. (Or worse, all over Bryce's spiffy sports coat??) Would Bryce save Easter???
As you can see, I was concerned. The pan was wobbly. One false move and Easter would be ruined! Not really, but boy oh boy, did I want to avoid a 30-pound ham winding up on the floor. My jeans were a little snug that day, and I could not see myself squatting to clean it all up. 😂 He had to stop and set the pan back down a couple of times, and I was biting my nails the whole time.
Victory!! He made it. (As you can see, a family member was cheering on the sidelines.) Great job, Bryce! But what cracks me up is the way he is holding his body. I can't tell if he's positioned himself in such a way to steady himself in order to pick up the 30 pound ham...or to avoid getting his spiffy sportcoat dirty. Maybe a little bit of both? Or maybe he's a cattle rancher's son and doesn't know how to handle pork products?
But all of this ham conversation is really pretext. The real question here is, what is going on with mullets right now? Lest you think Bryce is an anomaly, please just google "Mullets Are Back" and you'll see that he isn't. (Actually, don't google that. Or if you do, enter at your own risk!)
Basically, I don't understand it, I don't subscribe to it, I don't endorse it, I don't support it, I don't like it, I am perplexed by it, I am flummoxed by it, and I think they should be illegal.
What do you think?
Thanks for weighing in! I'm going to share the results with Bryce. (But only if they turn out in my favor...haha.)
