Welp, the secret’s out! Mauricio and I are expecting our first BABY! We are over the moon, and it has been a crazy fun past couple of months since we found out. Let me give you a little recap!
How We Found Out
This all started when Mauricio and I had gotten home from a weekend trip to visit his family in Mexico. I had a weird "off" feeling so decided to discreetly take a test right when I got home…and what do you know, it said “Pregnant”!
Mauricio was in the living room watching TV, so I called George in and gave him the test to carry into the living room. Mauricio immediately picked up on what was going on, and was quite shocked! We were sort of in disbelief after that, so of course I took a handful (or 30) more tests just to confirm. Anyone relate? (Psst. We took a few days on our own to process, celebrate, and let the reality set in that we are going to be parents (of a real human, not just a dog…haha!). How crazy is that?! It took a while for us to wrap our brains around it, but we are so excited.
George isn’t sure how to feel about having to share our love and attention…but I know he will be the BEST doggie brother.
Telling Our Family!
After we found out, we were obviously super eager to share with our families! We actually had a trip to the ranch planned for the following week, so I immediately started rush ordering things from Etsy.
We told Paige first by showing her the pregnancy test and gifting her a bottle of Prosecco with a custom label that said “Welcome to your Auntie Era!” Her reaction was so sweet and honestly caught me off guard, I wasn’t expecting her to get emotional! She will be the best aunt.
Then we told my parents immediately after, strategically recruiting Paige to film the whole affair. Since it was the week before Mother’s Day, I gave my mom an “early Mother’s Day gift” that had a onesie and a custom card that read “The only thing better than having you as my mom, is our baby having you as a grandma!” It was all so cute! My parents’ reactions were priceless, I think they were truly shocked! I think they had to mentally adjust to the idea of officially being GRANDPARENTS. Unfortunately, Paige accidentally recorded the whole thing on Time Lapse, so I can’t show you much of it…but we’ll always have the memory in our hearts! My mom is going to post her version of events (and the "video" Paige shot, haha), but here is the gift I gave her. My Aunt Betsy was there too, which made it extra special.
We got to tell Mauricio’s mom, Martha, on Mother’s Day (I gifted her the same things I gave my mom), and she instantly burst into tears. It was so sweet, and so special for Mauricio. First grandchild on both sides, I have a feeling this baby will be very loved!
The First Appointment Made it Official!
There's nothing like that first appointment to make it feel like it's real. I'm due just after the first of the year, and I have a feeling the next few months will fly by.
I'm going to try to take it all in and enjoy this time. Being able to share it not only with my family and close friends, but also our wider friend group and of course social media, has been so much fun. Thank you all for your love and support!
How I'm Feeling
I'm not going to lie, I've experienced some pretty serious nausea over the past few weeks. My mom warned me this could happen (it did with her) and the morning sickness (which was actually evening sickness for me!) did not disappoint.
All part of the process, though, and it hasn't dampened my excitement for what it all means. Let the adventure begin!
