There are baby giggles, there are gummy grins, and then there are those unforgettable first words. Alex Drummond and Mauricio Scott may have just hit that milestone with their daughter Sofia—and the video is absolutely priceless!
Over the weekend, Ree Drummond was on grandma duty while Alex and Mauricio were away, and she caught a big moment on camera. In the clip, Ree can be heard encouraging Sofia to "say Da-Da." Without missing a beat, Sofia looks up and very clearly repeats, "Da-da!" Paige Drummond, who was right there holding Sofia, looks totally stunned, her eyes wide and mouth open like she can't believe what she just heard. Ree calmly encourages her granddaughter to say it again, but Sofia just looks around casually, as if it was no big deal. 😂 (And, to be fair, this might not be the first time she's said it!)
Still, it's one of those moments that feels straight out of a family scrapbook—except this time everyone got to see it thanks to Instagram. And honestly, it couldn't be sweeter. Mauricio might have won the first-words race (sorry, Alex—though she did joke in the caption that Sofia is "still working on mama"), but it's safe to bet Sofia will be a chatterbox soon enough.
Of course, this isn't the only milestone the eight-month-old has been busy hitting. Alex recently shared photos of Sofia celebrating her "8 months" mark, complete with a floral romper, milestone card, and her now-signature gummy grin. She's sitting up on her own, grabbing onto furniture, and even sprouting the tiniest tuft of long hair. Between growing stronger, finding her personality, and now trying out her first words, it feels like Sofia is changing every single day.
And while Alex and Mauricio may have missed this "Da-Da" moment live, they couldn't have asked for a better fill-in than Ree. Grandma ReeRee is quick on her feet (literally—she spent the rest of the weekend running laps with Sofia and George the golden retriever!), and now she's quick with the camera too. Something tells us there are going to be plenty more adorable videos where this one came from!
