Ladd Drummond's Best Dad Moments Over the Years

Ladd comes from a long line of cattle ranchers, so you know he had to instill all those traditional cowboy values of courage, strength, integrity, and hard work into his kids, too. Not only that, but the Drummond kids know all about ranching! Hauling hay, feeding livestock, saddling up the herd, roping livestock: they can do everything, and it's all thanks to Ladd.

Just look at Ladd and Alex's beautiful moment! They danced to "Cowgirls Don’t Cry" by Brooks & Dunn just months after Ladd's accident. Alex says, "It’s a country song that we always listen to, it's about a girl who grew up in the country, and I just feel like it was very fitting for my relationship with my dad."

Ladd is always up for driving his kids to college with Ree, then helping them unpack and settle in. And of course, he had to grab the biggest departing hug when he dropped off Todd at the University of South Dakota.

You'd never know it from the smile on Ladd's face, but joining in is a journey! Ree's recap of handing out the matching Christmas pjs makes that clear: "I hand out the packages and watch them all open them up. Ladd is always the last to open his because I think he dreads what's next... I make everyone go put them on. Ladd is always the last to put his on because I think he dreads what's next... We have a photo shoot... Ladd wouldn't have it any other way."

It's no exaggeration to say that Ladd is his kids' biggest cheerleader (along with Ree, of course)! No matter the school his sons play for and no matter the state that school is in, he'll show up to support them at their big games. Here, he made the trip to watch Bryce play for the University of North Texas.

Ladd pulls out all the stops for one of the biggest, brightest 4th of July fireworks shows around! The annual event started out as a small family celebration when the Drummond kids were little, but now it's a full-blown Pawhuska party. Ladd himself will light the fireworks as everyone celebrates the night away.

If the Drummond kids are celebrating milestones, Ladd will be right by their side. On this particular day back in 2021, Jamar officially signed to play college football at the University of Central Oklahoma. The look on Ladd’s face as he went to give his boy a pat on the back is pure dad pride.

Ladd vacationed in Vail, Colorado as a child—and now he gets to bring his family to that same special spot for plenty of fun bonding time. Skiing, eating, and exploring the area are only some of the things he loves to do with his kids.

Not every dad wants to spend time traveling to sorority events, but Ladd rose to the occasion! Literally. "Ladd and I got up at the crack of dawn and drove to see Paige Saturday morning. It was sorority bid day, and we wanted to be there for the fun and celebration," says Ree.

No matter the event, you can find Ladd at the grill! After trying his grilled tenderloin recipe, you'll understand why the kiddos want it at every special occasion—and why they call him Laddy Daddy the Grill Master.

Ladd has been to his fair share of commencement ceremonies! And despite that tough cowboy exterior, he's known to get emotional. In fact, at Alex's high school graduation, Ree says, "I looked over to find my husband, Alex’s father, the strapping stallion of our family, unable to speak. His eyes were filled with tears, his lip was quivering." That's one proud pop!

Ree once said, "Ladd loves the dogs... he puts them in the back of his truck and takes them with him around the ranch!" Yep, Ladd the Dog Dad spends plenty of quality time with all of his hounds while working. They even help him feed the cattle!
